Volvo launches C40, the automaker’s second all-electric vehicle

Volvo unveiled the company’s second all-electric car on Tuesday. The C40 Recharge follows the XC40 in an SUV with a sportier design and smoother lines. The car will not have a version with an internal combustion engine, as the automaker’s goal is to produce only electric vehicles by 2030.

“The C40 Recharge represents the future of Volvo and shows where we are going. It is fully electric, sold over the Internet and shipped quickly, ”said Henrik Green, CTO.

The new car has two electric motors powered by a 78 kWh battery. Fully loaded, the C40 can cover 420 kilometers. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.9 seconds.

The C40, like the XC40 Recharge, is powered by an Android operating system developed in collaboration with Google. Assistant, Google Maps and Play Store are some of the apps available for interaction and may vary by market and are upgradeable.

A sales start date has yet to be announced, but the automaker says production will begin next fall in the northern hemisphere, spring in the southern hemisphere, at a plant in Ghent, Belgium. By 2025, the company expects electric vehicles to account for 50% of global sales.
