Canoo announces the delivery of an electric van

Electric vehicle startup Canoo, which goes public through a merger with a Special Acquisition Company (SPAC), on Thursday revealed plans for its second vehicle, a cargo van, and set goals to develop a pickup truck and build micro-factories.

Canoo said it will offer two versions of its delivery vehicle, which will cost around $ 33,000. The vehicle will be limited in production at the end of 2022, with wider adoption in 2023.

“The platform is designed not only for delivering goods, but also for realizing use cases,” Canoo CEO Tony Aquila said in an interview.

Aquila said Canoo plans to develop a pickup truck that goes beyond plans for a cocoon-like seven-seater in the second quarter of 2022, with a cargo van and a sports sedan in 2025. He did not publish the development timeline. truck.

“You will see how we present a complete line of products,” he said.

Canoo has developed a “skateboard” – a low platform that combines batteries and electric motors with chassis components such as steering, brakes and wheels, on which a variety of vehicle bodies can be mounted.

While the company, which will go public later this month as part of an agreement with SPAC Hennessy Capital, is pushing for the closure of a manufacturing contract with supplier Magna International, it also intends to build its own cars in micro-factories, Aquila said.

The vehicle will initially be launched in the North American market, followed by the Canadian, Mexican and European markets.
